I never went into this thread as I started watching dexter about 6 or 7 weeks ago and got hooked. Just finished up season 5.

Season 1 was incredible, season 2 was incredible, season three not as great but still incredible, season 4 was incredible, and season 5 was pretty damn close to being incredible. On par with season 3.

Fuck you all who thinks this show is isn't still the the absolute bees knees. I fell in love with michael c hall after watching six feet under earlier this year and instantly got into dexter. 2 of the best t shows I have ever seen. Dexter is perhaps my all time favorite character.

I'm genuinely curious about what you liked in Season 5.

Season Three was a bit weak toward the end. I didn't feel any emotional catharsis at the end, like the anxiety veil had been lifted. It all seemed so predictable to me, whereas with Season One and Two I was constantly trying to figure out how it would end. I'm hoping Season Four will be better. I'll still finish out the series, as it's easily one of the most compelling shows out there.

This is the first show/movie/etc. that I am honestly obsessed over. To the point where I'm gonna follow it blindly unless something extreme happens. But as long as dexter is killing I am happy. I don't fully understand all the hate directed towards season 5 to be honest. Is it about lumen? I felt that story arc went about as good as it possibly could, and even got to the point where I didn't want her to leave the show. I think it was season with most "shhh brush it under the rug moments." They totally forgot about the fuentes brother, the bautista marriage is weak as fuck, the wrecked car at the camp dexter crashed, how deb found the camp was a bit weak, and a handful of other weak storyline plots. However, with that being said the core story was fairly strong, lumen worked out fine, and dexter is dexter

season 2 was a soap opera, and an unimaginative one at that. season 3, so far, is awesome.

Season 2 was phenomenal, and my favorite so far. Doakes and Lila added so much anxiety, and it was unclear what Dexter was going to do to resolve the tension with both. A terrific and compelling season. Season 3 was much slower paced, which is fine, but I felt the Miguel Prado issue was resolved too early. The George King issue was resolved in a lame way that was too coincidental and neat. But the producers could do this because they know people want to come aboard for the fourth season, in which Dexter and Rita finally have their baby. We'll see what they do here.

haha that video was pretty good. you should put a spoiler alert though in it, despite anyone travelling in this thread should be weary of spoilers anyways

I've been zooming past posts because I don't want to read something inadvertently. But I dug the video despite a few spoiler references. Chances are I'll forget them by the time I get around to Season 4.

Finally finished Dexter Season 5. While I thought it started slow I liked how the pace continued to pick up until the finale. But I do have two large beefs: 1) Dexter is doing increasingly risky things offset by his often unnecessary inner monologue; 2) Julia Stiles. Jesus, Mary, and Joseph did I hate her in that role. First of all, she has a husky voice that doesn't really convey the "I survived torture porn" trauma. The same could be said of her acting, which was subpar at best. Third, her face is subjectively ugly, and this made her difficult to watch, especially as she's referred to at least three times throughout the season as attractive. No. Maybe in 10 Things I Hate About You, but not now.

I did like to see how the dynamic changed between Dexter and Rita's kids. Aster is little sass, huh? It was also nice to see Dexter actually show some emotion, both subtly and obviously, in key moments. I thought the Peter Weller solution was a little too neat, but they worked it in nicely with Quinn's angle. And how about Jonny Lee Miller? Great guest appearances by him.

yeah, this will be the first season where I am not getting Showtime turned back on to watch it.

I blame Julia Stiles and her forehead.
