"Lost Loves" - This song took 20 years to complete  Reply with quote

LOST LOVES (Xaul Zan Vs. Lil Sage)

Read the lyrics at http://tinyurl.com/LostLovesSFR

ďLost LovesĒ is a song that literally took 20 years to complete. The first half was recording in 1991 and the other half was recorded in 2011. Thanks to my pack-rat ways since an early age, Iím now able to trade bars with my younger self.

Finalizing this song involved salvaging a 20 year old recording from a 2nd generation cassette dub, filling in the blank lines, and twisting what was originally a tale of unrequited love into a bizarre story about a man who thinks itís appropriate to woo his lady with battle raps.

To top it all off, this is the long-awaited return of my nasty alter-ego, Xaul ZanÖso donít expect anything sweet. ďItís got to do with lots of loviní and it ainít nuthiní nice.Ē

Such a cool concept for a song, and it was really nicely done. Kinda like it was meant to happen.

I look forward to another one of these in 20 years.

The way big sage supports the lines of little sage makes little sage sound much more skilled and intentional.

"And by that I mean, I wasn't keen to the fact that
There was no need for all the beats in my backpack."

This must have been really fulfilling to create.

The way Lil Sage says "just chillin with my girl" somewhere at the beginning sounds very Slick Rickish to me.

Good call. The entire Lil Sage section was my attempt at pulling off a Slick Rick song. That's the only reason I was able to do this track actually. Because Slick Rick often overlapped his lines with his own vocals. So I tried doing that by recording my vocals into the tape recorder and then playing it back while recording the rest of the vocals into the same tape recorder. The tape I uncovered was the version without the second layer of vocals.

Ha...I said the same thing on Sage's Facebook page after hearing that. Very Slick Rickish.

That was a very good attempt at pulling off a Slick Rick kind of thing, though! haha. Lil Sage is on point. Good track. Is this a free download, though? And if not, will this be on a new Sick Of or something, Sage?

Thanks for this. I'll keep it on deck as another "and he did this first" track to share.
