Yeah. I've concluded you have awful taste (albeit, with a few lucky exceptions) and rarely know what you're talking about. Just like (a) sole (fan). BOOM! OLDIE BUT GOODIE!!

The Ugly Truth by Prolyphic & Reanimator is one of my favorite releases of the last couple of years. Not just hip-hop.

Working Man by Prolyphic & Buddy Peace is also top notch.

Oooooookay. I was trying to be diplomatic about Kendrick. I tried to give him a fair shake, but he fucking blows. If you're really trying to suggest that he's better than Sole than we have nothing left to discuss. I don't always agree with Sole on his views or his beat selection, but I'll take substance over style any day.

You've got to be the least interesting person on the Internet. The dullest incoherent drab comes out of you. What makes it too much to take is you think your opinion is valid. Like why the fuck do you talk about acting so much? What the fuck do you even know about acting?

You're anything but insightful and please for the love of god stop trying to be funny.

For being so drab and uninteresting you seem to have taken a very vitriolic position against me. Did we beef in some other thread and I missed it? Are you upset about fantasy football still? Are you a Kendrick Lamar promoter? Where is your opinion policing coming from?

If it's all the same to you, I'll just keep on keeping on. I'm not really trying to be funny, or interesting. I just leave messages on a message board, about acting or whatever else comes to mind. Some things I like. Some things I don't. We probably even have similar interests with some things. So cool down.

Kendrick Lamar is the emcee whose music I've listened to the most in the past few years. The whole TDE crew is legit. I also fucks with Chance the Rapper. And Danny Brown. Hate me now.

Here are some examples of what I think is great from these guys.

Kendrick:

Chance the Rapper:

Danny Brown:

Honestly, Chance is the only rapper I've given half a shit about in the last several years. I'm not sure if what has happened to hiphop is a natural cycle, the reflections of man-made weather change, or the mp3 internet.... but everything has gone to shit.

That said, Chance is fucking great. If you people don't like that guy, then what the fuck.

I'll say this after listening to the songs B. Dolan posted:

1) I understand the lyrical appeal of Kendrick Lamar a bit better now. The first beat was decent but the second was far too lo-fi and repetitive for my taste. I'll say this: he at least sounds like someone I should keep my ear on instead of discarding outright. With the right producer (again, according to my preferences) he could be amazing.

2) Chance the Rapper seems like he's got some serious talent. I'd heard about him before but never really given him a listen.

3) Is this early Danny Brown shit? On the guest spots I've heard him ["Oh Hail No" with El-P and a new cut with Busdriver and Aesop Rock] his voice sounds really out of control and exaggerated, but I didn't mind it here. Nice beats too.

Not really early Brown there. The early Danny Brown didn't really do the screechy voice at all (look up "re-up" or "nowhere to go" - I think the early stuff is good, but for a lot of people it's too normal, I guess, or standard street rap stuff) Two songs from what B. posted are from the XXX mixtape, which is 2 or 3 years old, one is from his album from last year ("Old"). He's been doing both of those styles on his last record. In this one he kind of raps like he used to:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EngbGrzCE0w

I like Danny, but when he's in full-on screeching mode, I can't listen to him for long.

I don't really see what's wrong with just not feeling Kendrick. Hip hop is music. Not everybody will be feeling the same thing or liking a guy's voice or beats. What's wrong with that? Either there's some other shit involved in this dispute or people are really taking liking or not liking the guy way too personal.

Thanks, Flossin. I don't really get it either, as I've never really interacted with Limbs on the forum, and certainly not in real life. But I just remembered that Limbs' fantasy football name was Kendrick's Challenge, so there seems to be some weirdly misplaced loyalty here coupled with some even more misplaced anger toward me.

And just to take it back to hip hop (sort of) I wanted to recommend Bike For Three! It's Buck 65 and Greetings From Tuskan, and I really like the blend of Buck's voice with the musical arrangements. The new records is a little less hip hop than the first, but it's still pretty good.

Also check out Black Mask, which is a crew out of Colorado. Think Oldominion. A lot of their releases are available on bandcamp. I like Maulskull (who produced Sleep's new album) and Aklock a lot.

Check out Guante + Big Cats! too. Big Cats! used to post on this forum, and maybe still lurks around. I can't remember the name. Confoundit? Something like that? Anyway, I like Guante's prose-style of rapping a lot, and Big Cats!'s production is really nice. He produced "Black Out on White Night" on HTDD, which is one of my favorite tracks ever.

Also, I really like the various projects Sapient has done. He's part of another Northwest crew, Sandpeople, and I think he's probably their strongest member. He produces and raps in what I think is a really signature style. I recommend any of his solo stuff, and the Debaser records. Really fantastic stuff.
