In theory, the thing is a great idea... but in practice, it's where the fun goes to die.

Well, yeah. The reason it doesn't make a whole lot of sense in 2014 is because of the low activity on the forum.

The reason it DOES make sense in 2014 is because it's great to have one place where all the crazy shit happened...leaving them as they were rather than having people bump them for old time's sake.

We can certainly reflect back on them by posting a link and taking the discussion in a new direction if need be.

I agree. I think what should happen, though, is the making of a copy of the thread after it's reached it's height, but let it still linger on in the main forum... just in case someone wants to add to it years later and have it actually be seen.

Then again, who cares.... what the fuck am I doing.

I'd be all over this forum if the activity wasn't so low. Used to be awesome discussions in here...learned stuff new, everyday. And there are other forums i participate in for my other hobbies that are thriving and engaging, so it isn't the forum format. I think when Sage's activity started to dwindle on here, and the limited activity seemed to be more promotion than honest engagement, there was a steady exodus of participation by forum members. I still click on here a few times a week hoping to see some life. I still have hope. Where y'all at?

It was a natural migration to social media. People used the forum to share their thoughts and opinions. Then they used the forum and Myspace. And then there were a hundred other places for people to create their own pages and spend their time online. Also, I banned almost everyone. So...

Based on responses to the "one thread you'll never forget" thread, it seems like a lot of the old forum players are still around. For me the notable absences are Icarus, Redball, and Futurist. Those cats always had something to say about everything, and it seemed to spark a lot of discussion and debate. Oh yeah, and Raoul/Eltron. I liked that guy.

I miss Phil.

I'm curious if there's an accurate way to track lurkers.

For as little as the OGs post they are still around. I like that mark still posts. I always thought he was a real deal pro writer or something.

Or a way to track half written posts before they said what the fuck am I doing I have a family/job/something more important to do and exes out.

Also I wonder if people mainly doing everything on their phones impacts anything. The way people used to break down posts quote by quote and everything is so not a fluid process on a phone.

But the hall of fame was a good idea. Both for archiving and that it is a different time when the same stuff might be worth arguing about again. They deserve their own place. If they ever happen.
