Sage Lyrics That Affect Your Lingo  Reply with quote

I realized the other day that I bite Sage's style in my every day speech more often than I thought...

For example: When I meet someone new, sometimes I say: "New friend, commin' on in, makin' me wanna grin.' Which is a rip off of some Sage freestyle (I think the one with N'toko?) where he says "new beat, commin' on in, makin' me wanna grin'

They always look at me funny, but if they're cool, they laugh... At least that's what I tell myself.

Also, I think this is from the Sage vs Sole battle on the DVD.. I say 'I was on the phone, while you were being phony." when people are spending too much time looking at their phones.

Annnnnnywwaaaayyyy... Do you have any of these?

haaaa. I am going to release that freestyle on the next mixtape.

That part never really stuck out to me though, so that's funny to hear.

On the rare occasion that "birth certificate" is mentioned I think: "BIRTH CERTIFICATE PAPUH!"

Once I interrupted a friend of mine and loudly demanded to know if he was gaslighting me. He asked me what gaslighting was, falling into my trap. I told him it was a billion dollar industry. This did the conversation no favors.

One of my co-workers was giving me shit about something the other week and I told her to save her breath because I've heard it all before from sharper tongues with a lot more scorn. It felt pretty good.

I often do the "meeee toooo, meeee tooo" from Gunz Yo; I've done it enough that now the rest of my family has started too.

Ha, not as bad as it sounds. Lots of shit talking in jest at my work, it was just a joke. And yes, I realize how ridiculous it sounds in every day conversation.

In Taboo II (late 70's porn) there's a scene where a guy is in a sauna with a girl. He says, "I'm on fire, I'm on fire." She says, "Me toooo, me toooo."

It's been stuck in my head forever.

After I saw a video of Sage rapping with some dudes in Austin I often say "like Burt Reynolds" when people talk about mustaches and follow that with "fuck Burt Reynolds"

Not a Sage lyrics, but sometimes if a friend comments negatively on my appearance, if I'm dressed kind of sloppy that day or something, I'll say "There ain't nobody to be pretty for, fuck it." And then I'll just kind of shrug my shoulders.

ha! great nugget of information!
i've got something like that in my lexicon..

there's this old porn i had on VHS with Nina Hartley.. at the
end of one scene where she finished off some sort of carpenter
or handyman, she turns to the camera and says, "Got that
chore done".. it's been probably a decade and a half since
i've seen it, but still when i finish a chore at home or a task
at work, i still bust it out...

"Got that chore done."

...and nobody has a clue to my inside joke but myself.
